Cost of living and taxes

 

Although the Uruguayan currency is the Peso, the primary currency in use is the US Dollar which tends to be most beneficial to the British in particular.

The flexibility of Punta del Este allows investors to hold any currency they wish without restrictions.

While Punta del Este has a slightly higher cost of living that the other parts of Uruguay, it still remains one of the lowest in the world and is helped considerably by the low taxation and income outside Uruguay, salary, capital gains on sale of shares or property, pensions, leases, income and any other type of income, are not taxable. No exchange controls or foreign currency limitations
